About

Lava Show is a live experience that recreates a volcanic eruption by superheating real lava to 1,100°C (2,000°F) and pouring it into a custom-designed showroom. It is located in both Reykjavík and Vík, Iceland, and offers visitors the chance to safely witness real flowing lava up close, regardless of weather. The show combines visuals with expert narration and geological insight, led by Lava Masters, many with academic backgrounds in geology.

The company was founded by husband-and-wife duo Júlíus Ingi Jónsson and Ragnhildur Ágústsdóttir, who were inspired by the Fimmvörðuháls eruption in 2010. The first Lava Show opened in Vík in 2018, using real Icelandic lava rock from the 1918 Katla eruption, and a second location opened in Reykjavík's Grandi Harbour District in 2022.

Visitors can choose between the Classic experience, with ground-level seating close to the lava and an educational video, or the Premium experience (Reykjavík only), which adds VIP lounge access, balcony seating, an exclusive video, a backstage tour, a welcome drink and a lava souvenir. The Reykjavík show focuses on Iceland's volcanic systems and recent eruptions, while the Vík show tells the story of the 1918 Katla eruption.
