Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland
Welcome to Vík HI Hostel — the social hub for travelers exploring Iceland's incredible south coast. We're right in the center of Vík í Mýrdal, with views of the iconic Reyniskirkja church perched on the hill above town. Whether you're a solo backpacker, a couple on a budget, or a family looking for affordable accommodation, we've got you covered. We have a range of room types to fit every budget. Our Dorm Beds are in six-person mixed dorms — each bed comes with a personal locker, reading light, and a privacy curtain. Shared bathrooms are kept clean throughout the day. For more privacy, our Private Double Rooms have a double bed and shared bathroom, with all bedding included. Our Private Double with Bathroom is essentially a hotel room at hostel prices. And our Family Room has a double bed plus bunk bed with its own bathroom, sleeping up to four. The heart of our hostel is the communal space. Our large kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook your own meals — stoves, ovens, pots, pans, utensils, and plenty of fridge and freezer space. Cooking your own food is one of the best ways to save money in Iceland, and the kitchen is also where friendships happen. We've seen countless travelers share recipes, cooking tips, and travel stories over pasta and wine. The lounge has a fireplace, comfortable seating, books, and board games. On cold winter evenings, it becomes the coziest spot in town. We also have a small shop selling basics like pasta, sauce, snacks, and toiletries for those late arrivals when everything else is closed. Practical stuff: we have laundry facilities (800 ISK per load), free WiFi throughout, and luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures. Bedding is included in all private rooms. Dorm guests get a pillow and duvet — bring your own sheet or sleeping bag liner, or rent one from us for 1,500 ISK. Vík is one of the best locations on the south coast. Reynisfjara black sand beach is a ten-minute drive. Dyrhólaey cliffs with puffins in summer are nearby. Mýrdalsjökull glacier offers snowmobile and ice cave tours. And the village itself has restaurants, a wool shop, and a supermarket. We're part of Hostelling International, which means HI members get a discount. But everyone is welcome, member or not. Check-in is between 14:00 and 22:00, check-out is at 10:00. Free parking outside. Budget-friendly doesn't have to mean boring. Come stay with us and meet the world.
