Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, South Iceland
Welcome to Mýrdalsjökull Snowmobile Tours — your ticket to riding across one of Iceland's most powerful landscapes. Mýrdalsjökull is the fourth largest ice cap in Iceland, and beneath it sleeps Katla, one of the country's most active volcanoes. When you're riding a snowmobile across that vast white expanse with nothing but ice, sky, and mountains in every direction, you feel the raw power of this place in a way that's hard to describe. Our base camp sits at about 600 meters elevation on the glacier's edge. We transport you there in our specially modified super-trucks from Vík — the ride up is an adventure in itself, bouncing along highland tracks with views that keep getting more dramatic the higher you climb. Pickup from Vík is always included in the tour price. We run three different tours. The Glacier Express is our one-hour ride — perfect if you're short on time but still want the thrill of snowmobiling on a real glacier. The Glacier Explorer is a two-hour journey that takes you higher up the ice cap to the summit area, where on clear days you can see the entire south coast stretching from Dyrhólaey to the Westman Islands. And from June through August, our Midnight Sun Ride is something truly special — a three-hour evening tour under the golden glow of the midnight sun, when the ice turns pink and orange and the world feels infinite. No snowmobile experience is needed at all. Our guides give full training before every tour, and the machines are easy to operate. Two people ride per snowmobile — one drives and one rides on the back, and you can switch halfway through. A valid driver's license is required for the driver. Passengers don't need one. Everything is provided: warm snowsuits, helmets, gloves, and balaclavas. Even in summer, it's cold up on the glacier, so we make sure you're properly kitted out. Just bring warm base layers and your sense of adventure. The glacier is accessible year-round, though conditions change with the seasons. In winter, we ride on fresh snow at lower elevations. In summer, we go higher where the snow is permanent. Our guides check conditions every morning and adjust routes for the best possible experience. We're based in Vík, which means you can easily combine a snowmobile tour with other south coast activities — Reynisfjara black sand beach, glacier hiking at Skaftafell, or horse riding along the coast are all nearby. Come ride with us on top of a volcano — how many people can say they've done that?
