Welcome to Hella Country Hotel — a warm, welcoming stop in the village of Hella, right on Iceland's famous Ring Road. We like to say we're at the crossroads of adventure: the Golden Circle is an hour north, the wild highland roads to Landmannalaugar begin just up the valley, and the entire south coast stretches eastward from our doorstep. Our hotel has fifteen rooms, recently renovated in a clean Scandinavian style that blends modern comfort with Icelandic character. We have Standard Singles for solo travelers, Standard Doubles with views of the river or the surrounding mountains, Superior Doubles with king beds and private balconies, and Family Rooms with a sofa bed for those traveling with children. Breakfast is always included — a generous Icelandic buffet to fuel your day's adventures. Our in-house restaurant is something we're genuinely proud of. We serve dinner from 18:00 to 21:00, focusing on local ingredients: lamb from farms in the Rangárþing region, fresh trout from the Ytri-Rangá river (one of Iceland's best salmon rivers, which flows right through Hella), and seasonal vegetables from nearby greenhouses. The bar has a good selection of Icelandic craft beers and a curated wine list. Hella sits at about 94 kilometers from Reykjavík — roughly a ninety-minute drive — making us an easy first or last stop on any south coast itinerary. From here you can reach Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls in under an hour, and Vík with its famous black sand beach is about two hours east. For those heading inland, the F225 road to Landmannalaugar — one of Iceland's most spectacular highland destinations with colorful rhyolite mountains and natural hot springs — starts nearby. One thing our guests particularly love is how good we are for Northern Lights viewing. Hella has very little light pollution, and on clear nights from September through March, the aurora can be spectacular. We even wake our guests up if we spot activity — just let us know at check-in if you'd like the Northern Lights wake-up call. We can help arrange tours from Hella: Golden Circle day trips, south coast adventures, Landmannalaugar super-jeep excursions, river rafting on the Hvítá river, and horseback riding through the countryside. Just ask at reception and we'll set it up for you. Check-in is between 14:00 and 23:00, and check-out is at 11:00. Free parking is available on site.
