Instead, you get an apartment with character, recommendations from people who actually know the city, and the freedom to do things your way. Not an Airbnb. Not a chain hotel. Your home base. Snorrabraut 54 started its life in 1930 as the Reykjavík Milk Cooperative, the place where half the city came to pick up their butter and skyr. Designed by Einar Erlendsson in the functionalist style that was just taking hold in Iceland, it shares a family resemblance with the Sundhöll swimming hall, one of the city's most beloved buildings. Over the decades, the building housed the Reykjavík Dairy, then a cheese and butter company, and at one point even the radio station Bylgjan. The tenants kept changing. The architecture stayed. Thick concrete walls, clean lines, quiet confidence. We've turned it into a boutique apartment hotel while keeping everything that made the building worth saving. The concrete walls are still thick. The lines are still clean. The dairy products are gone, though. Sorry about that.
